Official support from Oratex Lanitz and Fliegermagazin
A call for proposals that gives aircraft a new lease on life
Every aircraft has its own story to tell, and the Swedish Jodel is ready to begin a new chapter. When Chris told me about the annual call for proposals from Oratex Lanitz, I immediately knew I had to try my luck with the Jodel. The company offers an incredible opportunity: a complete aircraft covering worth 10,000€, including materials and a workshop.
Why the application is so special
The Oratex Lanitz competition is not just a simple raffle. To apply, you have to present your project in detail - the history of the aircraft, the work you would invest and the plans for the future. The application should demonstrate why this particular project deserves the support.
For me, the Jodel is about keeping an understated model flying. The Jodel D113 is more than just a parts donor; even though it has a simple and unremarkable design, it is a symbol of countless memories experienced by many pilots on their journeys. Owning a Jodel used to seem unattainable. Unfortunately, they are slowly disappearing, being replaced by more modern models. The Oratex covering would not only help me restore the aircraft to pristine condition but also ensure the longevity and safety this plane deserves.
"I firmly believe that even aircraft that do not have vintage status or aerobatic capabilities deserve to keep flying."
But for me personally, this project means even more. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn from Chris, who is not only an experienced pilot and flight instructor but also an expert in aircraft construction. I want to learn everything I can about aircraft restoration and maintenance. If, due to my diagnose, I can no longer fly myself, it would be a bright spot for me to at least continue working on airplanes - whether building, fixing, or just helping.
The unforgettable moment at AERO
AERO 2024 in Friedrichshafen was in full swing, and my tension was palpable as the time for the awards ceremony drew near. I waited at the Fliegermagazin booth, surrounded by like-minded individuals and enthusiastic aviation fans. It was a special moment that I won't forget anytime soon. When the jury finally announced the winner, I could hardly believe what I heard: my name!
A moment that changed everything—the Jodel had won! The joy was immense, and the surprise was written all over my face. I had not expected to receive such support or that a Jodel could stand out against other applicants. An incredible moment that showed me it's worth holding on to your dreams.
Start of the restoration and an exciting future
At the end of September, the restoration work on the Jodel begins. With Chris by my side, I will learn every step, from the initial preparation to the final covering. Oratex offers us the perfect combination of tradition and innovation. And who knows? This might be the beginning of a new passion for aircraft construction. Every challenge brings new opportunities, after all.
Stay tuned! The journey is just beginning
I look forward to taking you all on this journey and sharing the progress. It will be exciting to see the Jodel in the sky again with its new design!
A big thank you to Oratex Lanitz and Fliegermagazin for this incredible opportunity. We are more than ready to get started and excited about what's to come!
